A native of Wisconsin, Kristin Drecktrah has a wide range of international experience. Her legal studies at Florida International University enabled her to focus on gaining practical and academic experience in international law matters, especially international arbitration, trade law, and business transactions.
During law school, Kristin completed international law coursework in Rome and Barcelona in both English and Spanish. She competed in the Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot and the Skadden Arps Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Moot. She interned with boutique international business law firms in Miami and Madrid, assisted a professor in researching topics in Spanish constitutional law, and served as a Comments Editor on the FIU Law Review.
Kristin provided legal assistance to indigent individuals advocating for clients in immigration court through the FIU Immigration and Human Rights Clinic. She was also an intern at the Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center (FIAC) where she aided in the representation of domestic and low-wage workers and engaged in community outreach to educate the community on wage theft.
Kristin received her undergraduate degree in Spanish and Portuguese Studies, during which time she studied in Portugal and traveled extensively throughout Europe. She then spent nearly four years in Mexico teaching English to university students, studying a graduate program in translation and interpreting, and working freelance as a translator. After that, she gained valuable experience in the telecommunications industry as the sales administrator of a wireless broadband manufacturer and supplier.
Prior to joining GS, Kristin developed her practice as an associate attorney in an insurance defense litigation firm in matters of complex insurance disputes, professional liability, coverage and bad faith, and third party liability.
